STELLA`S CHRISTMAS LUNCH
Some of you may be aware that Stella started this event some 50 years ago with the aim to invite pensioners and those living alone in Boxted, Hartest, Somerton and Fenstead End to enjoy a free Christmas dinner together, Latterly this has become a lunchtime event as it was felt that many people didn`t relish the idea of coming out in the dark and those who were unable to venture out were delivered a “take-away” meal, which we know has been very much appreciated.
With a small army of willing helpers on the committee, the fund-raising has increasingly become a challenge, so much so that in 2011 five events had to be organised to raise enough money to fund the Lunch. Within the four villages we have struggled to attract enough people to come to these fund-raising events, although many of these very people are happy to accept Stella`s invitation at Christmas time. Added to this, the number of eligible people seems to increase annually, so even more effort is needed. Our problem is that we need more people on the Committee, particularly one (possibly two) persons to head up the whole fund-raising effort and to organise the Lunch itself. This will relieve some members who now wish to retire and would like to hand over to others with enthusiasm and commitment to carry on as Stella intended.
If you wish this lunch to continue, please come forward and offer your help. If a new committee cannot be formed, regretfully we will have no alternative but to discontinue this Lunch.
We look forward to hearing from you. Please contact Stella on 01284 830337 or Val on 01284 830450
